Chianti, Cerro del Masso '06

Grapes: Sangiovese and Merlot
Each: £7.80

Chianti with just that little extra silky ripeness.

This comes from the home property of the ever so prolific Alberto Antonini - flying winemaker extraordinaire. As such it bristles with his trademark touches - a deep colour, ripe plummy nose and a full, fleshy palate with supple tannins and great balance. He's a favourite of mine, particularly good at accessibility. This wine may not have the classic elegant structure of some of the finest Chianti but it is eminently drinkable with a weight and ripeness that many should envy.
