Rosso di Montalcino, Sesti '05

Grapes: Sangiovese
Each: £14.50

Good honest Rosso.

The hamlet of Argiano is the most beautiful spot in one of the most beautiful parts of the world, Tuscany. Giugi Sesti and his fantastic family have breathed new life into this once abandoned garrison hamlet, turning it into the magical home they now share with fortunate friends and from which they offer their equally impressive wines.
In 1975, needing a quiet place to write, Sesti fled the hustle and bustle of Venice for the Tuscan hills. He bought the crumbling ruin of Argiano and set about writing, renovating, raising a family and in his spare time helping to establish the baroque opera festival of Batignano. Four books on Time and Lunisolar Calendar systems in the seventies were followed, in the eighties, by a comprehensive volume on the Celestial Sphere and the ancient culture and mythology of the constellations. But life was not that of a hermit. Surrounded by winemaking neighbours, Sesti’s natural curiosity led to thoughts of establishing his own vineyard, this became the challenge for the 1990s. A fine range ensued.
The Rosso has that wonderful combination of fruit and earthy developed character. If you're an Italian fan this will hit the spot - if you're aren't a fan YET this will push you in the right direction.
